Paul Bowers lives in a lovingly restored historic home in the Eysian Heights neighborhood of Echo Park. From his breakthrough technology IBOT personal mobility device/wheelchair he enjoys the steep hills and natural beauty of his adopted hometown. As a former LAUSD teacher a father to a current LAUSD student he is focused on improving the schools, sidewalks and overall livability in his surrounding area. In 2004 after returning from the hospital following a motorcycle accident he rallied his community and motivated then -City Councilor Eric Garcetti’s office to find the money in the budget to fix the sidewalks in front of his house and up and down his street. Since then he has worked on a range of projects including collaborating with engineering students at Cal Sate LA and Cal Tech to develop a hydraulic vehicle entry system for wheelchairs which requires no more space to enter and exit than any other car or van. Paul served his neighborhood council by improving access to city services and outreach to his diverse, dynamic community. Sportswashing LA aims to be a megaphone for leaders in the growing Clean Technology Economy.
